Background
Ivan had outgrown his previous seating system, which no longer provided adequate support. The primary goals were to prevent Ivan from sliding forward in the seat due to thrusting motions at the hips, support the trunk, and minimize forward lean.
Intervention
To address these issues, the STX cushion, the Support Backrest with Lateral Supports and the Align belt range was implemented. Key features and adjustments included:
- Deep Ischial Well: The STX’s deep ischial well was used to secure the pelvis in a neutral position, preventing forward sliding. The deep contour of the cushion ensured proper alignment of the lower limbs, preventing adduction.
- Four-Point Pelvic Belt: A four-point pelvic belt was utilized to provide the necessary pull to secure the pelvis further.
- Support Backrest with Lateral Supports: Lateral supports on the backrest were added to prevent leaning.
- Chest Harness: A chest harness was used to prevent forward leaning, with a harness retainer kit to achieve the optimal position.
Outcome
The new seating system successfully met the aims of preventing forward sliding, supporting the trunk, and minimizing forward lean. Ivan experienced improved stability and alignment, enhancing overall comfort and posture.
Conclusion
The implementation of the STX seating system, with its deep ischial well, integral contours, four-point pelvic belt, lateral supports, and chest harness, provided the necessary support and alignment for Ivan. Ivan’s case highlights the importance of a well-fitted seating system in maintaining optimal posture and preventing discomfort. We wish you the best Ivan, thanks for being such a champ!
